Job Description

WHAT: Profee Spine Coder

WHERE: Remote, MST Hours, 40 hours/week

WHEN: ASAP, 6-month Contract to Hire

We are seeking a mid-level Spine Coder on a contract-to-hire basis to be a key contributor within our client’s enterprise profee coding team. This role will focus primarily on the accurate and efficient coding of spine surgert services and thorough review of patient documentation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of ICD-10 coding principles, particularly as they relate to CPT and HCPCS codes, and adhere to NCCI guidelines. The ideal candidate has the ability to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. This is a fully remote position, requiring work hours aligned with the Mountain Standard Time zone.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for a variety of Profee spine surgery services.
  • Must understand and adhere to NCCI guidelines.
  • Code and abstract information related to spine procedures.
  • Thoroughly review patient documentation to ensure accurate and complete coding, identifying any discrepancies or missing information.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of Medicare coding guidelines and regulations related to spine surgeries.
  • Collaborate effectively with other members of the coding team and clinical staff to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy.
  • Stay up-to-date on coding changes and updates.
  • Meet established coding productivity and quality standards.
  • AAPC and/or relevant certification required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional coding experience.
  • Ability to pass assessments with 90% + accuracy.
  • Strong proficiency in ICD-10 coding principles.
  • Demonstrated experience coding spine surgery services (laminectomy, decompression, fusion, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex medical documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to work Mountain Standard Time (MST) hours in a HIPAA compliant environment.
  • Be a self-starter, agile, and willing to work hard and ramp up.
  • Experience utilizing Epic EHR and EncoderPro (Optum).
